‹ Photo Notes · 15 ledna, 2012

In October 2010, after a year’s delay, the book Nude Photography was finally published; it is a compilation of black-and-white nudes by 21 authors from various ends of the world and also contains a large series of my photographs from 2004 to spring 2009, that is until the photo selection was finalized.
The book was produced and published by the Spanish publisher Loft Publications in cooperation with the German distribution company Frechmann Köln GmbH; worldwide distribution to more than 70 countries is handled by other companies, for example here it is Slovart. On Saturday 6 November, a month after publication, the book reached the shelves of the biggest Czech bookshop, Neoluxor, and is gradually arriving at other brick-and-mortar and online shops.
The book Nude Photography has 672 pages of quality paper (Chinese Matt Art 157 g) in the format 195 x 200 mm, is 53 mm thick and weighs over 2 kg. Here it is sold in the English version; it also exists in German, Spanish, French, Italian, Norwegian and Danish editions, which I don’t consider very important given that, apart from the imprint and the index of photographers, you won’t find any text in it.
In spring 2009 I was approached by an editor of the Spanish publisher Loft Publications, which publishes books on architecture, design and art, to supply a series of black-and-white photographs for this book. The editor described the required style to me and I prepared a file containing about 100 photographs to choose from. 28 photographs were selected, of which 23 eventually appeared in the book.
The publication date was set for autumn 2009, but then the economic crisis came and everything changed. The book was ready, but the date was moved to the end of January 2010. Visitors to my March exhibition Girls in the Gazebo (Holky v altánu) may remember that I announced then for the first time that the book would come out any day, but in the end everything dragged on for another half year. I stopped asking the publisher about further and further dates long ago, and I recalled the book with a smile only recently, when another Spanish publisher wrote to me.
A photograph by Nicola Ranaldi was chosen for the cover; the first photograph inside the book is my Nad ránem (listed in the English version as Deep night) from 2004.

The photographs of the individual authors are arranged in the book in a mixed order; at the end of the book you will find an index of photographers with the page numbers of their photographs. Some of my photographs included in this book had never been published before, either in print or on the internet.
